- ItemAdvertising literacy measurement scale from students' perspective(preprints.org, 2021) Rasekh, Nazanin; Ghasemi, Hamid; Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo Jose; ABdolmaleki, Hossein; Soheili, BehzadAlthough advertising literacy leads to critical thinking in the face of advertising, but so far, no action has been taken in Iran regarding a tool to measure this type of literacy. And after the investigations, it was determined that although much research has been done on advertising, but the lack of appropriate measurement tools to measure the level of advertising literacy is clearly evident. Therefore, this research provides a valid tool for measuring advertising literacy from students' perspective. In this study, referring to the dimensions of advertising literacy from the perspective of Malmelin (2010) and the views of related professors, a questionnaire was developed and to determine the validity of the structure, confirmatory factor analysis was used. In this study, the statistical population was high school students, considering the impact of advertising in this age range; finally, a tool with four dimensions of informational literacy, aesthetic literacy, rhetorical literacy and promotional literacy was obtained. According to the confirmation of this tool in the present study, it can be used to examine the status of items, their order and prioritization from the perspective of the mentioned population.
- ItemAn Analysis Safe Protocols Employed in Professional Male Soccer and the Impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the 2020 Brazilian Championship(MDPI, 2021) Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo Jose; Albuquerque, Pedro da Gama Roberto de; Vasconcellos, Gabriel de Almeida; Nascimento, Rodrigo Mendonça do; Cavalari, Nadine Tonelli; Range, Daniel; Guimarães-Mataruna, Andressa Fontes; Ortiz-Silva, BiancaThe COVID-19 pandemic directly reached and impacted upon elite sports and caused the postponement of sporting events globally. In order to enable the return of activities, protocols were created with recommendations to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. The objective of this work is to analyze and compare the safe return protocols of major football leagues and associations to those of the Brazilian Championship, as well as to survey the numbers of COVID-19 outbreaks in clubs that competed in the 2020 Brazilian Championship Series A. The documentary research was carried out through the analysis of articles published on open-source football league and federation websites. National and international return protocols were verified, as well as the documenting of isolated cases and outbreaks of COVID-19 in the Brazilian Championship. In the Brazilian Championship, the return to play occurred at a time when COVID-19 case numbers were rising, a fact that, together with the decentralization of the match cities, was likely linked to the number of positive cases. A total of 302 positive cases of COVID-19 were identified in 14 outbreaks during the competition. Therefore, this work identifies good practice and underscores the need to reassess and refine the protocols to minimize the impacts of COVID-19 going forward. © 2021 by the authors. - ItemAre there opportunities for women as head coaches in Brazil's national teams? The case of handball(Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP, 2022) Mesquita, Idalina Borges; da Silva, Carlos Alberto Figueiredo; Ghayebzadeh, Shahrouz; Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo Jose; Ribeiro, TiagoAim: This study aims to analyze the perceptions of women who hold leadership positions in sports on female participation as the head coach of the Brazilian women's handball national team. Method: We offer a qualitative case study. The collected data was through in-depth elite interviews. The interviewees’ responses were analyzed and interpreted using the construction of categories. Results: The finds show perceptions of the categorization process. Three main categories emerged: 1) Prejudice. The interviewees affirm that the prejudice within the sport has been decreasing over the years. But it remains latent and continues to make difficult the continuity and rise of women in sports. 2) Professional and personal life. The interviewees affirm that Brazil is still a macho country, and even at a lower level, prejudice still exists in the universe of sports. The sport is known as a territory where men produce and demonstrate their masculinity; this favors the perception that coaches are usually men, having specific questions about the women's competence in that position, and that only men would be able to run teams. 3) Competence. The conciliation between family and professional life is a delicate situation, promotes conflicts, and does not favor the rise of women in positions of command. Nevertheless, the difficulty of reconciling personal and professional life, especially in high-performance sports, is necessary to leave home for extended periods for training or competition. Conclusion: The prejudice still is present despite its reduction over the years. The men domain the sports career, and for women, it is necessary to face the glass ceiling and prove their capacity constantly. Women's access to head coach teams, such as the Brazilian adult women's handball national team, is still a significant challenge. © 2022 Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP. All rights reserved.

- ItemAvaliação dos riscos de transmissão do SARS-CoV-2 durante o treinamento de um clube de futebol no Brasil = Evaluation of the risks associated with the transmission of SARS-Cov-2 during a professional football club's training in Brazil(School of Physical Education and Sport of the University of São Paulo (EEFEUSP), 2022-08-30) Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo Jose; Silva, Gabriel Nascimento; Nascimento, Rodrigo Mendonça do; Oliveira, Eduardo Thomaz de; Costa, Angela Marta Souza da; Cavalari, Nadine Tonelli; Ortiz-Silva, BiancaCOVID-19 is an infectious disease with respiratory transmission caused by the new coronavirus. Due to the high viral transmissibility, sports activities were severely impacted all over the world and in Brazil football was paralyzed for about four months. The objective of this study was to identify the activities with the highest risk of Covid-19 transmission in a professional soccer club in Rio de Janeiro based on a cross-sectional study with a semi-quantitative emphasis. The results showed that physical training showed a greater number of touches (105) with a high prevalence of hand on the ball (94%). The antibody search found that 24,2% tested positive for IgG during the study. During the training phase, no cases of SARS-CoV-2 transmission between players and staff were identified. It is believed that biosafety measures and the individual and collective commitment of everyone to social isolation and hygiene measures are an important strategy for the viability of sports activities. - ItemBig Data Analyses and New Technology Applications in Sport Management, an Overview(Association for Computing Machinery, 2020-05-15) Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo Jose; Faccia, Alessio; Helú, Hussein Muñoz; Khan, Mohammed SayeedTechnology has profoundly changed our lives, especially in the past two decades. The introduction of the internet and PCs, first of all, cell phones and later smartphones, has changed our daily habits, leading us to be always connected for many hours of the day. Changes that have affected all fields, not least sporting activity, always focused on performance maximization. Technology in sport has made great strides, allowing both amateurs and even more professionals to use innovative technical solutions that can improve performance: first of all during training and then, consequently, in official competitions. Innovations both in the field of materials, but above all in terms of tools for verifying correct training through the collection of a large number of data, turned into carefully analysed useful information. There are sports that have benefited most from these new technologies, based on their particular characteristics. This research focused on a systematic analysis of the most important technologies that are currently allowing great progress in sports performance and in the impartiality of competitions through the analysis of the collected data. In particular, the research highlighted three particular areas of interest: A) video assistant data collectors; b) Wearable technologies; c) Scouting tech-based techniques. © 2020 ACM.
- Item"A ceremony for television”: the Tokyo 2020 media ritual(The Centre for Comparative Politics and Media Research, 2021) Guimarães-Mataruna, Andressa Fontes; de Souza, Adriano Lopes; Petersen-Wagner, Renan; dos Santos, Doiara Silva; Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo Jose; da Silva, Otávio Guimarães TavaresThe Olympic Games opening ceremonies are cultural performances that can be understood as a ritual and a spectacle. This performance is characterized by articulating universal messages and values with local cultural meanings. As a ritual, it marks the beginning of a global event and transmits through its symbols (athletes, flag, anthem, oaths and pyre) a set of values of universal aspiration. As a spectacle, it celebrates the culture of the country that organizes the Games. These ceremonies are means of cultural communication and a media spectacle at same time.
- ItemComparative Analysis of the Awareness of the Cervical Cancer in the UAE Among Working Women, Female Players, and Household Ladies(Research Trend, 2020) Skibinska, Edyta; Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo Jose; Azeem, MuhammadA vital component of female health-promoting activities is education. The public awareness was given to households, working women, players, and students around the United Arab Emirates about cervical cancer. The campaigns were conducted to educate about the potential prognoses and the diagnosis of the disease, which is the cent percent curable. This study aims to understand the degree of awareness among women about cervical cancer in UAE, and what are the factors contribute to the seriousness of taking preventive measures among working woman, female players, students, and household ladies. Despite the extensive mass campaigns targeted at women, encouraging them to do ‘screening test’ as a preventive action, the global studies show a high mortality rate for women due to this disease. The data was collected through a survey designed for this research, to support triangulation in analysis from more than 1500 female respondents, in the age ranging between 18 and above. Semi-structured interviews were conducted from the selected respondents to further understand the nature of the case. The results of the analysis provided evidence that the general level of awareness exists among all groups of women, whereas the knowledge of risk factors and methods of preventing cervical cancer varies to some degree among the female population. The study guides us to the extent, government and institutional intervention are essentially required to increase the awareness level to the specific strata of the female population in UAE. The main challenges faced by researcher was the unavailability of enough research in the context of working women in UAE, and the cultural bottleneck which stop women to speak openly on this subject. These challenges were overcome by collecting primary data after meeting in person to the subjects. This was quite helpful in the hypothesizing the framework for future research.

While these measures are imperative to mitigate spreading of COVID-19, the impact of these restrictions on psychosocial health is undefined. Therefore, an international online survey was launched in April 2020 to elucidate the behavioral and lifestyle consequences of COVID-19 restrictions. This report presents the preliminary results from more than one thousand responders on social participation and life satisfaction. Methods: Thirty-five research organizations from Europe, North-Africa, Western Asia, and the Americas promoted the survey through their networks to the general society, in 7 languages (English, German, French, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, and Slovenian). Questions were presented in a differential format with questions related to responses “before” and “during” confinement conditions. Results: 1047 participations (54% women) from Asia (36%), Africa (40%), Europe (21%), and others (3%) were included in the analysis. Findings revealed psychosocial strain during the enforced COVID-19 home confinement. Large decreases (p < 0.001) in the amount of social activity through family (−58%), friends/neighbors (−44.9%), or entertainment (−46.7%) were triggered by the enforced confinement. These negative effects on social participation were also associated with lower life satisfaction (−30.5%) during the confinement period. Conversely, the social contact score through digital technologies significantly increased (p < 0.001) during the confinement period with more individuals (+24.8%) being socially connected through digital technology. Conclusion: These preliminary findings elucidate the risk of psychosocial strain during the early COVID-19 home confinement period in 2020. Therefore, in order to mitigate the negative psychosocial effects of home confinement, implementation of national strategies focused on promoting social inclusion through a technology-based solution is strongly suggested.

This work extends an initial descriptive evaluation focusing on athlete classification. Methods: Athletes (12,526; 66% male; 142 countries) completed an online survey (May-July 2020) assessing knowledge, beliefs, and practices toward training. Sports were classified as team sports (45%), endurance (20%), power/technical (10%), combat (9%), aquatic (6%), recreational (4%), racquet (3%), precision (2%), parasports (1%), and others (1%). Further analysis by sex was performed. Results: During lockdown, athletes practiced body-weight-based exercises routinely (67% females and 64% males), ranging from 50% (precision) to 78% (parasports). More sport-specific technical skills were performed in combat, parasports, and precision (∼50%) than other sports (∼35%). Most athletes (range: 50% [parasports] to 75% [endurance]) performed cardiorespiratory training (trivial sex differences). Compared to prelockdown, perceived training intensity was reduced by 29% to 41%, depending on sport (largest decline: ∼38% in team sports, unaffected by sex). Some athletes (range: 7%-49%) maintained their training intensity for strength, endurance, speed, plyometric, change-of-direction, and technical training. Athletes who previously trained ≥5 sessions per week reduced their volume (range: 18%-28%) during lockdown. The proportion of athletes (81%) training ≥60 min/session reduced by 31% to 43% during lockdown. Males and females had comparable moderate levels of training knowledge (56% vs 58%) and beliefs/attitudes (54% vs 56%). Conclusions: Changes in athletes' training practices were sport-specific, with few or no sex differences. Team-based sports were generally more susceptible to changes than individual sports. Policy makers should provide athletes with specific training arrangements and educational resources to facilitate remote and/or home-based training during lockdown-type events. © 2022 Human Kinetics Publishers Inc.. Methods: In total, 3911 athletes [mean age: 25.1 (range 18–61) years, 1764 female (45%), 2427 team-sport (63%) and 1442 elite (37%) athletes] from 49 countries completed a multilingual cross-sectional survey including the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Insomnia Severity Index questionnaires, alongside bespoke questions about napping, training, and nutrition behaviors. Results: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (4.3 ± 2.4 to 5.8 ± 3.1) and Insomnia Severity Index (4.8 ± 4.7 to 7.2 ± 6.4) scores increased from pre- to during lockdown (p < 0.001). Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index was predominantly influenced by sleep-onset latency (p < 0.001; + 29.8%), sleep efficiency (p < 0.001; − 21.1%), and total sleep time (p < 0.001; − 20.1%), whilst Insomnia Severity Index was affected by sleep-onset latency (p < 0.001; + 21.4%), bedtime (p < 0.001; + 9.4%), and eating after midnight (p < 0.001; + 9.1%). During lockdown, athletes reported fewer training sessions per week (− 29.1%; d = 0.99). Athletes went to bed (+ 75 min; 5.4%; d = 1.14) and woke up (+ 150 min; 34.5%; d = 1.71) later during lockdown with an increased total sleep time (+ 48 min; 10.6%; d = 0.83). Lockdown-mediated circadian disruption had more deleterious effects on the sleep quality of individual-sport athletes compared with team-sport athletes (p < 0.001; d = 0.41), elite compared with non-elite athletes (p = 0.028; d = 0.44) and older compared with younger (p = 0.008; d = 0.46) athletes. Conclusions: These lockdown-induced behavioral changes reduced sleep quality and increased insomnia in athletes. Data-driven and evidence-based recommendations to counter these include, but are not limited to: (i) early outdoor training; (ii) regular meal scheduling (whilst avoiding meals prior to bedtime and caffeine in the evening) with appropriate composition; (iii) regular bedtimes and wake-up times; and (iv) avoidance of long and/or late naps. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
- ItemCOVID-19, sustainability and Olympic Games: which lessons can we learn from Tokyo 2020?(Emerald Group Holdings Ltd., 2022) Russo, Eduardo; Figueira, Ariane Roder; Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo JosePurpose: This paper aims to understand how the sustainability theme has been incorporated into the new Olympic planning guidelines based on analysing the case of Tokyo (2020), which was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: For this, field research using the case study method was carried out that involved 21 in-depth interviews with experts from different entities affected by the event. Findings: As a result, it was possible to identify that some characteristics already presented in the Tokyo project came to break away from the gigantism observed in the past Olympic editions in an attempt to demonstrate alignment with the new principles brought by the IOC (2020) and 2020 + 5 Agenda that had as one of its main objectives to simplify the Olympics, making the event more sustainable and accessible for future host societies. Originality/value: At the end, some trends for the future of the Olympic Games are also presented in order to guide future studies in the area, as well as help the future host cities and their companies in planning their investments. © 2022, Emerald Publishing Limited.
- ItemDIAMOND OF THE DESERT: THE CASE OF QATAR’S 2022 FIFA WORLD CUP(University of Rijeka, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Opatija, 2022) Russo, Eduardo; Figueira, Ariane; Swart, Kamilla; Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo JoseFor the first time in the Arab world, the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022 was one of the main drivers for promoting important infrastructural changes in the country, as well as for transforming the image of Qatar in order to make the destination more attractive to foreign tourists. However, despite the great wealth from its Oil & Gas reserves, several social challenges that historically affect the country began to emerge due to greater coverage of the international media, threatening the expectations of positive legacies left on the country's image from the event. Given this context, the case puts the reader in the role of Ahmed Al-Nasr, then Chairman of the Qatar Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, as he faces different pressures made by major international brands sponsoring the event who now see their image threatened by successive controversies that the country has been involved in and they are threatening to withdraw their support and investments. The case is indicated for undergraduate and graduate students of courses in the area of Tourism, Sport Management, and Business interested in discussing topics and concepts related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) responsibility, management of mega events, international marketing, and country destination image.
- ItemDigitalization of Olympism and peace from the Portuguese language Olympic committees’ perspective = Digitalização do Olimpismo e paz na perspectiva dos comitês olímpicos de língua Portuguesa(Olympism and Peace = Olimpismo e Paz, 2021) Guimarães-Mataruna, Andressa Fontes; Milla, Asli Cazorla; Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo JoseThis present chapter presents an investigative study about the promotion of Olympism and peace ideals. The publications on the Portuguese Language Olympic Committees’ profiles on Instagram were observed from January 1, 2019 to July 1, 2020. The study considered the social, economical, and peace indexes as promoted by the United Nations and the Olympism ideals as described in the Olympic Chart to refer to discussions related to the content published on that social medium. It concludes that the Olympic Committees from the Portuguese Language countries should raise the number of publications and deepen the discussions to encourage the promotion of peace using sports and Olympism as a means for social intervention and Olympic Education.
- ItemEducation for Self-Management of Cooperatives and its Contribution to Local Development(Equalitas, 2022) da Silva, Daniel Bispo Ferreira; Pinheiro, Geraldo; Galhardo, Giselle; da Silva, Jorge Ferreira; Franquini, Karen Freitas; Azevedo, Régis; Nascimento, Sheila Santos do; Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo Jose; Guedes, André Luís Azevedo; da Silva, Carlos Alberto FigueiredoThis work analyzes the cooperative principle and its importance for self-management. It also verifies in the literature a possible contribution to the objective for sustainable development number 4, with the potential to develop skills and technical competencies for the cooperative members, mainly in the self-management of recovered companies and in the specialized training of the local community.
