Item An Analysis Safe Protocols Employed in Professional Male Soccer and the Impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the 2020 Brazilian Championship(MDPI, 2021-12-02) Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo Jose; Albuquerque, Pedro da Gama Roberto de; Vasconcellos, Gabriel de Almeida; Nascimento, Rodrigo Mendonça do; Cavalari, Nadine Tonelli; Range, Daniel; Guimarães-Mataruna, Andressa Fontes; Ortiz-Silva, BiancaThe COVID-19 pandemic directly reached and impacted upon elite sports and caused the postponement of sporting events globally. In order to enable the return of activities, protocols were created with recommendations to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. The objective of this work is to analyze and compare the safe return protocols of major football leagues and associations to those of the Brazilian Championship, as well as to survey the numbers of COVID-19 outbreaks in clubs that competed in the 2020 Brazilian Championship Series A. The documentary research was carried out through the analysis of articles published on open-source football league and federation websites. National and international return protocols were verified, as well as the documenting of isolated cases and outbreaks of COVID-19 in the Brazilian Championship. In the Brazilian Championship, the return to play occurred at a time when COVID-19 case numbers were rising, a fact that, together with the decentralization of the match cities, was likely linked to the number of positive cases. A total of 302 positive cases of COVID-19 were identified in 14 outbreaks during the competition. Therefore, this work identifies good practice and underscores the need to reassess and refine the protocols to minimize the impacts of COVID-19 going forward. © 2021 by the authors. This performance is characterized by articulating universal messages and values with local cultural meanings. As a ritual, it marks the beginning of a global event and transmits through its symbols (athletes, flag, anthem, oaths and pyre) a set of values of universal aspiration. As a spectacle, it celebrates the culture of the country that organizes the Games. These ceremonies are means of cultural communication and a media spectacle at same time.Item Digitalization of Olympism and peace from the Portuguese language Olympic committees’ perspective = Digitalização do Olimpismo e paz na perspectiva dos comitês olímpicos de língua Portuguesa(Olympism and Peace = Olimpismo e Paz, 2021) Guimarães-Mataruna, Andressa Fontes; Milla, Asli Cazorla; Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo JoseThis present chapter presents an investigative study about the promotion of Olympism and peace ideals. The study considered the social, economical, and peace indexes as promoted by the United Nations and the Olympism ideals as described in the Olympic Chart to refer to discussions related to the content published on that social medium. It concludes that the Olympic Committees from the Portuguese Language countries should raise the number of publications and deepen the discussions to encourage the promotion of peace using sports and Olympism as a means for social intervention and Olympic Education.Item Effects of home confinement on physical activity, nutrition, and sleep quality during the COVID-19 outbreak in amateur and elite athletes(Frontiers Media S.A., 2023) Taheri, Morteza; Irandoust, Kadijeh; Reynoso-Sánchez, Luis Felipe; Muñoz-Helú, Hussein; Cruz-Morales, Karla Noelia; Torres-Ramírez, Raymundo; Mirmoezzi, Masoud; Youzbashi, Leila; Mirakhori, Fatemeh; Dergaa, Ismail; Vancini, Rodrigo Luiz; Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo Jose; Zazueta-Beltrán, Diana Korinna; Zouhal, Hassane; Morales-Beltrán, Roxana Abril; Soylu, Yusuf; Molgado-Sifuentes, Amairani; González-Hernández, Juan; Hernández-Cruz, Germán; Castro, Luis Bernardo Bojorquez; Kurt, Cem; Trabelsi, Khaled; Chtourou, Hamdi; Seghatoleslami, Ali; López-Camacho, Manuel Octavio; Mendoza-Baldenebro, Ramón Ernesto; Torabi, Farnaz; Saad, Helmi Ben; Washif, Jad Adrian; Strahler, Jana; Guimarães-Mataruna, Andressa Fontes; Lebaron, Tyler W.; Ezdini, Ebrahim Shaabani; Rezaei, Marjan Sadat; Moshtagh, Mozhgan; Yagin, Fatma Hilal; Gülü, Mehmet; Esmaeili, Atefeh; Müller, Patrick; Ammar, Achraf; Scoditti, Egeria; Garbarino, Sergio; Puce, Luca; Bragazzi, Nicola Luigi; Nobari, HadiIntroduction: Despite the progress in the management of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, it is necessary to continue exploring and explaining how this situation affected the athlete population around the world to improve their circumstances and reduce the negative impact of changes in their lifestyle conditions that were necessitated due to the pandemic. The aim of this study was to analyze the moderating influence of physical activity (PA) and dietary habits on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic experience on sleep quality in elite and amateur athletes. Materials and methods: A total of 1,420 elite (40.1%) and amateur (59.9%) athletes (41% women; 59% men) from 14 different countries participated in a cross-sectional design study. Data were collected using a battery of questionnaires that identified sociodemographic data, sleep quality index, PA levels, dietary habits, and the athletes' perception of their experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Means and standard deviations were calculated for each variable. The analysis of variances and the correlation between variables were carried out with non-parametric statistics. A simple moderation effect was calculated to analyze the interaction between PA or dietary habits on the perception of the COVID-19 experience effect on sleep quality in elite and amateur athletes. Results: The PA level of elite athletes was higher than amateur athletes during COVID-19 (p < 0.001). However, the PA level of both categories of athletes was lower during COVID-19 than pre-COVID-19 (p < 0.01). In addition, amateurs had a higher diet quality than elite athletes during the pandemic (p = 0.014). The perception of the COVID-19 experience as controllable was significantly higher (p = 0.020) among elite athletes. In addition, two moderating effects had significant interactions. For amateur athletes, the PA level moderated the effect of controllable COVID-19 experience on sleep quality [F(3,777) = 3.05; p = 0.028], while for elite athletes, the same effect was moderated by dietary habits [F(3,506) = 4.47, p = 0.004]. Conclusion: Elite athletes had different lifestyle behaviors compared to amateurs during the COVID-19 lockdown. Furthermore, the relevance of maintaining high levels of PA for amateurs and good quality dietary habits by elite athletes was noted by the moderating effect that both variables had on the influence of the controllable experience during the COVID-19 pandemic on sleep quality. The aim of the study was to analyze the influence of gender, area of academic formation and sports practice over the attitudes towards women's participation in sports by the student community of the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente (UAdeO). A cross-sectional study with correlational-explanatory scope was realized with 3,716 (71.3% women and 28.7% men) UAdeO students. The scale about the perception of attitudes towards women's participation in sports (AWPS) was applied. Comparisons were made according to gender, type of sport practice and area of study and regression coefficients were calculated between the sociodemographic variables and the AWPS using the method of introducing variables. The results show that the gender, sports practice, and area of study variables were significant predictors of three scales of the AWPS. Likewise, differences were observed in the AWPS factors as a function of sociodemographic variables. It is possible to conclude that the attitudes towards women's participation in sport of the participants are influenced by the variables gender, sport practice and area of studies. The novel coronavirus global pandemic has caused important changes to our relationship to sport and our ways of life in both local and global settings. The Olympic calendar was transformed through the postponement of the summer Olympic Games, and ultimately we all had to appreciate the event at distance. Now that the games have concluded, it is important to reflect on how those disruptions materialized themselves in a place that is becoming ever more common in our lives: digital media and, in particular, social media platforms.Item Pax sportivus: Olympism under a new perspective of peace from the COVID-19 pandemic scenario = Pax sportivus: o Olimpismo sob uma nova perspectiva de paz a partir do cenário da pandemia a COVID-19(Academia Olimpica de Portugal, 2021) Mataruna-Dos-Santos, Leonardo Jose; Aranha, Ágata Cristina Marques; Challis, Bob; Callan, Mike; Mhanna, Rami; Guimarães-Mataruna, Andressa Fontes; Khan, Mohammed Sayeed; Ahmed, Dilsad; Alabdouli, Fahad Khalfan Jasem; Morales, Karla Noelia Cruz; Mulatinho, Rodrigo Vianna; da Silva, Carlos Alberto Figueiredo; Zardoshtian, Shirin; Ghayebzadeh, Shahrouz; Ortiz-Silva, BiancaIn the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) glorious history, the Games had never been postponed before, despite being cancelled twice due to World War I and II.
