Even though the Covid 19 pandemic had a significant negative impact on the luxury brand market, these brands showed resilience and ability to adapt to the new normal. In this paper, we discuss the pandemic's impact on luxury brands during and post pandemic. Additionally, we focus on the online marketing efforts and the shift in consumer buying habits in countries like the United States, Germany, and China. Results were generated using a qualitative approach to analyze secondary data from reliable sources, ensuring credibility and minimizing biases. Findings indicate that the pandemic significantly affected luxury consumers’ purchasing motivations and has posed numerous obstacles mainly; disrupted supply chains, diminished demand, and a transition towards online sales. A key implication also revealed a growing trend towards sustainability in consumer behavior during and post pandemic. Luxury brands have re-evaluated the impact of these unprecedented factors on their e-commerce strategies. These insights provide valuable information for industry professionals and consumers alike. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.Item COVID-19 and the new forms of employment relationship: implications and insights for human resource development(Emerald Group Holdings Ltd., 2021) Hamouche, Salima; Chabani, ZakariyaPurpose: The labor market has witnessed the increase of the new forms of employment relationship (freelancers, contingent workers, and gig workers) due to the COVID-19 outbreak, generating new workforce patterns that represent a significant challenge for human resource development (HRD) professionals in organizations. Studies that have addressed these new forms of employment relationship and HRD during this pandemic are sparse. This paper aims to broaden the scope of HRD research by exploring the implications of these new forms of employment relationship for HRD in the time of COVID-19. It also provides insights for HRD professionals as well as governments into how to address this challenge. Design/methodology/approach: This paper is a viewpoint that addresses the new workforce patterns generated by the COVID-19 pandemic and their implications for HRD at the organizational, individual and national levels. Findings: COVID-19 sheds light on the importance of atypical workers who can create a competitive advantage for organizations, ensure their continuity and significantly benefit national and societal well-being in times of health crisis. However, these atypical workers are often overlooked when it comes to training and development. Whence the importance, for HRD professionals and governments, to address their situation and to integrate them into organizational and national HRD plans and programs, by going beyond traditional models of HRD which focus mainly on standard employees. Originality/value: This paper examines a relatively unexplored topic. Besides examining the implications of the new forms of employment relationship, for HRD, it provides insights for HRD professionals and governments into how to address the challenges related to these new forms of employment relationship. © 2021, Emerald Publishing Limited.Item E-Supply Chain Issues in Internet of Medical Things(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2022) Ghazal, Taher M.; Al-Dmour, Nidal A.; Mohamed, Tamer; Chabani, Zakariya; Harguem, Saida; Noamas, Samar; Almaazmi, NouraItem Foresight study about the use of blockchain to prevent employees’ psychological distress: research avenues and insights for HRM practitioners(Emerald Publishing, 2023) Hamouche, Salima; Chabani, Zakariya; Shamout, Mohamed DawoodPurpose: The prevention of mental health issues at work represents a significant challenge for organizations. The transformation of workplaces whose future promises to be virtual or hybrid can make the anticipation and prevention of these health issues more challenging, considering the potential distance that it may create between employees and their employers. The recent health crisis undermined individual mental health but also highlighted the importance of new technologies which greatly paved the way for the future of workplaces. This paper aims to examine these new technologies, specifically the use of blockchain technologies in organizations to predict and prevent mental health issues at work, specifically psychological distress, in times of crisis, and beyond. It addresses the main challenges and opportunities and presents research avenues as well as insights for human resource management (HRM) practitioners. Design/methodology/approach: This paper is a viewpoint that addresses the use of blockchain technology in the prevention of employees’ mental health at work in times of crisis and beyond. Literature was used to support this viewpoint and highlight the importance of addressing mental health issues at work and preventing their occurrence in the future. Findings: Blockchain is one of the disruptive new technologies that can be used as a strategic tool for organizations to prevent mental health issues among employees in the workplace in times of crisis, and beyond. It facilitates the collaboration between employees, their organization, healthcare and employee assistance program (EPA) providers, as well as insurance companies. In this context, a specific type of blockchain should be used to support this type of collaboration. Practical implications: Blockchain can generate both opportunities and challenges for the prevention of mental issues at work. It can transform the future of workplaces and help organizations as well as healthcare and EPA providers to anticipate potential employees’ mental health issues in 2019. Organizations need to address their readiness to implement this new technology and the possible reluctance of their employees to use it. This paper presents insights for managers and HRM practitioners. Originality/value: The studies that have addressed the use of blockchain in organizations to prevent employees’ mental health issues are sparse. This paper is an attempt to address this gap and examine the challenges as well as the opportunities associated with the use of this disruptive new technology that can significantly reshape the future of workplaces. © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited.Item The Impact of Entrepreneurial Culture on Economy Competitiveness in the Arab Region(Allied Business Academies, 2021) Chabani, ZakariyaThe main emphasis of this study was assessing to what scope entrepreneurial culture among Arab counties affects the overall regional competitiveness of the MENA region. Data from each country were first solely analyzed then grouped by its subsequent trading blocks. An average assertion of the combined data was granted in the bid of assessing any entrepreneurial cultures. The entrepreneurial culture analysis of the countries and regions within the study were based on the time span through which the referenced entrepreneurial activity has been dominant and the education level of stakeholder. Most Arab countries have the same entrepreneurial structure and economic competitiveness despite various external factors affecting them. The results also revealed that the relationship between each country's internal economic competitiveness and the overall posture of the Arab region is positive. Besides, the relationship between dominant entrepreneurial cultures and the overall economic posture of the Arab region is also statistically confirmed. Much of the past studies failed to include and relate the external factors like the growing entrepreneurial cultures among states and regions. Basing conclusions on one region while others could convey disparities was regraded rather impractical. As such, to affirm the validity of conclusions; The relationship between the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) and North African countries from one part, and the Association of Southern Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the other Arab countries from another hand, had to be taken into consideration. © 2021. Almost every business sector is paying more attention to teams now that it has been established that cooperation enhances individual, collective, and even corporate performance. Information and abilities are seldom frequently or freely exchanged amongst co-workers at work or with other volunteers for non-profit organisations. If information is not shared, it can lead to unproductive learning cycles and potentially serious organisational failures. A lack of information sharing may occur from associates not knowing each other’s strengths, not knowing how to get specialised knowledge, or from an organisational behaviour that discourages or does not facilitate the exchange of information and skills. This study explores team collaboration and how it affects internal and external employees. The authors studied which characteristics of effective teamwork are associated with long-term sustainability. Individual and group performance indexes were used to foster teamwork. Comparing individual and group ratings reveals differences between employees. This strategy used cooperative gaming. S.; Lorenzo, José M.; Chabani, Zakariya; Farag, Mohamed A.; Domínguez, RubénAt present, a wide variety of analytical methods is available to measure antioxidant capacity. However, this great diversity is not reflected in the analysis of meat and meat products, as there are a limited number of studies on determining this parameter in this complex food matrix. Despite this, and due to the interest in antioxidants that prevent oxidation reactions, the identification of antioxidants in meat and meat products is of special importance to the meat industry. For this reason, this review compiled the main antioxidant capacity assays employed in meat and meat products, to date, describing their foundations, and showing both their advantages and limitations. This review also looked at the different applications of antioxidant properties in meat and meat products. In this sense, the suitability of using these methodologies has been demonstrated in different investigations. © 2021 by the authors.Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.Item The Role of Blockchain Technology in Enhancing Security Management in the Supply Chain(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2022) Chabani, Zakariya; Chabani, WidadItem THE CHALLENGES FACING PUBLIC ORGANIZATIONS TO IMPLEMENT HUMAN RESOURCES INFORMATION SYSTEMS: A CASE STUDY OF ALGERIA(Allied Business Academies, 2020-09) Chabani, ZakariyaThe purpose of this research is to identify the managerial purposes, benefits and challenges of HRIS implementation within public organizations to better understand how such technologies affect the capacity of the HR department to conduct effective and efficient work. This research is part of a constructivist epistemological approach. To achieve the main goal of the study, data were collected primarily via a semi-directive interview conducted at one of the biggest public companies in Algeria in 2018. In addition to the questionnaire, some of the organization's documents were used in combination with observations that allowed the researcher to confirm some of the data collected from the questionnaire. The management of the case study organization well understands the importance of HRISs. Thus, the management decided to implement the system. Although the implementation was successful, the management faced some problems, such as resistance to change from users in various divisions. Therefore, we can conclude that HRISs may contribute to enhancing the performance of HR departments and improving management processes. However, to ensure performance, the implementation must take place under the best possible conditions. Otherwise, the HRIS is no longer be an advantage but rather a significant cost. This is one of the few studies investigating the role of HRIS implementation in improving the HR department and management processes within a public organization. Due to the very specific characteristics of such organizations, which vary with regard to flexibility, bureaucratic attitude, resistance to change, etc., implementing HRISs can be very challenging. © 2020. The discussion highlights the innovative strategies and tools HR departments can use to manage a decentralized workforce, including online recruitment platforms, virtual training programs, and collaboration tools, as well as recognizing the challenges associated with these strategies, such as the lack of face-to-face interaction and engagement. The paper emphasizes the importance of adapting to a more decentralized workforce and the development of new strategies to remain competitive in the evolving business landscape. The paper concludes by highlighting the theoretical and practical implications of the growth of freelancing and remote work for companies such as the need for companies to adapt and innovate in their recruitment, training and development, and management strategies to remain competitive. Additionally, the need for HR departments to find practical ways to keep remote workers engaged and connected to the company culture while also considering legal and ethical implications. The paper suggests that companies must be proactive in addressing these challenges, as failure to do so may result in the loss of the best talent. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
